Como ya es tradición 🎄, me gusta escribir y compartir distintas ideas para elevar los looks de estas fiestas. Incluyendo texturas, materiales, prendas o accesorios que puedan marcar la diferencia entre un look regular y uno “elevado”.
As every year, I like sharing different ideas that can help you elevate your looks during the holidays season. From textures to materials, prints, items or even accessories that represent the difference in between a regular look and an “elevated” one.
Empecemos con con nuestra textura favorita para Navidad y Año Nuevo.
Let’s start with our favorite texture and material for Christmas and NYE.
Velvet (terciopelo):
Tener una pieza hecha de este material de inmediato indica que el look posee cierto valor agregado esto no necesariamente tiene que ver con el precio sino más bien con los detalles y construcción de la prenda aunque escoger el diseño apropiado es lo más importante.
Mi tip personal cuando se trata de este material es seleccionar prendas con construcción de sastrería o en caso de que sean vestidos cortos o largos no utilizar cortes sencillos o prendas con poca elaboración porque eso le resta valor al look, en este caso “más es más”.
Having a piece made of this material guarantees that the look will be elevated immediately and this has nothing to do with the price but with the details and construction of the piece although choosing carefully the design will make the difference.
My personal tip when it comes to this material is selecting pieces with tayloring construction or if looking for short or long dresses not to use simple cuts or pieces with “easy construction” because that will be decreasing the value of the look.
Don’t wear red unless is plaid or a female power suit (No usar rojo a menos de que sea con estampado a cuadros o un traje tipo sastre para chicas).
Red is an amazing color when it comes to dressing for the nighttime however it’s the color that we see the most during this season so we want to avoid it at all costs (wear it the day before Christmas but not during Christmas Eve) 😂.
The exception for guys resides in wearing a red-black classic plaid pullover or a plaid print suit with red tiny hints.
While the only exception to not wearing red I would advise for girls is picking a full on red power suit.
El rojo es un color espectacular cuando se trata de vestirse para la noche, sin embargo es el color que más vemos durante esta temporada y por eso es que queremos evitarlo a toda costa (utilizalo todos los días antes de navidad pero no durante noche buena).
La única excepción que recomiendo para los chicos es cuando usamos un abrigo clásico a cuadros rojos y negros. O un traje a cuadros con pequeñas partes rojas en el estampado.
La única excepción que recomiendo para las chicas es escoger un “power suit” aka traje rojo entero (blazer y pantalón).
Plaids for him ( estampado a cuadros para chicos):
El estampado a cuadros es uno de los que verdaderamente trasciende durante cada fin de año, los tonos azul petróleo, gris oscuro, negro con bordes blancos y el tradicional rojo con negro que mencionaba antes son parte de la gama que recomiendo para estas fechas.
La ventaja de adquirir colores oscuros en este tipo de trajes es básicamente la versatilidad para el futuro, son piezas que se pueden mantener en cualquier closet masculino (o de la persona que se sienta cómoda utilizándolo) por mucho tiempo y dependiendo de la calidad pueden ser piezas “heredadas”.
Plaid prints are a must during holidays specially when it comes to the end of the year, tones like petroleum blue, dark gray, black with white borders and even the traditional black and red plaid (in a pullover as I mentioned before) are the best for this season.
Advantages of dark colors when it comes plaid prints include the fact that you can wear them for different occasions in the future (literally every wardrobe requires a pair of plaid pants and a nice plaid blazer) and contrary to what most people think they are very versatile also depending on the quality of the pieces you can inherit them in the future.
Metallics for her (Metálicos para Ella):
Realmente cualquiera puede usar metálicos sin embargo todo depende de nuestro estilo personal, mi recomendación es utilizar solo pequeños detalles cuando se trata de los chicos en estos días de fiestas (a menos de que tu estilo sea más ecléctico) por ejemplo brazaletes, relojes o inclusive anillos (esos tipos de accesorios que sencillamente funcionan como complementos esenciales del look).
Para las chicas (o cualquiera que se sienta bien utilizándolo) existen muchísimas opciones cuando se trata de los colores metálicos, desde trajes hasta vestidos cortos o largos, zapatos y obvio accesorios en general en estos tonos. Todas son opciones válidas para Navidad y año nuevo. Mi recomendación tratar de buscar piezas que no se vean de mala calidad (sin importar si es lo más barato de la tienda, que se vea espectacular) la construcción, peso y más importante como se acople a nuestra forma anatómica cuenta (sin importar peso o altura). Acá les dejo algunas referencias.
Anybody can wear metallics however my personal advice is that when it comes to guys (unless your style is a bit indie or eclectic) to choose pieces that are only complementing your look, from a watch to a bracelet or even a ring if you may those metallic details can be present and simply elevate your outfit.
For girls or really anybody that feels comfortable wearing them there are many options when it comes to metallics from shoes to dresses, from suits to accessories (the variety is wide) what I would recommend is to pick pieces that look high quality regardless of the price, it could be cheap and look expensive or expensive and look cheap (price is not the key) how heavy the pieces are, how the construction is made and most importantly how the piece is fitted to us personally will make the difference. Remember to adjust it to your sizes (no matter your weight or height) and you will see the difference.
Shoes, Shoes, Shoes (zapatos de fin de año):
Para esta temporada (este año en específico ) hay dos opciones de zapatos que personalmente recomendaría y que seguirán un hit durante los primeros meses del 2019 así que pueden verlo como una inversión.
This holiday season (this year specifically) there are two shoe options (one for her one for him) that I would advise you to get and that I also believe will be a big hit a during the first month of 2019 so think of it as an investment.
For her (para ella): Snake over the knee boots- botas altas de piel de serpiente (falsa).
For him (para él): leathered or “velvet like” loafers – mocasines de cuero o cuerina o gamuza.
